Skill 3 – Verb & Tenses

A verb is a word that shows action (run, eat, play) or a state of being (be, seem, feel). Tense shows when the action happens: in the present, past, or future.

In English, verbs change form based on the tense:

  • Present Tense: I run every day.
  • Past Tense: I ran yesterday.
  • Future Tense: I will run tomorrow.

Verbs can also be regular or irregular:

  • Regular Verbs: Follow a consistent pattern (e.g., walk/walked).
  • Irregular Verbs: Do not follow a consistent pattern (e.g., go/went).

Practice Exercise

Fill in the blanks with the correct form of the verb in parentheses:

  • I __________ (run) every day.
  • Yesterday, I __________ (run) to the store.
  • Tomorrow, I __________ (run) a marathon.

Answers
