Module 1: Basic Grammar

Skill 1 – Sentence Basics

A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought.
In English, the usual word order is: Subject + Verb + Object (SVO).

  • Subject: Who or what the sentence is about
  • Verb: The action or state of the subject
  • Object: Who or what receives the action

Examples:

  • She reads books. (Subject = She, Verb = reads, Object = books)
  • They play football.
  • Reads books. (No subject)
  • She reads. (Correct sentence, but no object — still okay if the verb doesn't need one)
